This number acts as a unique identification and is primarily used to track all the financial transactions of that individual/business. It helps the income tax department maintain accurate records and notice any irregularities in financial transactions. In addition to this, a PAN card is required for various other purposes as well. Whether you want to open a bank account, apply for a loan, or file an income tax return, you need to submit your PAN card copy along with other documents.

What is the Need for a PAN Card Reprint?

Sometimes, a situation can arise when you may require a reprint of your PAN card. It usually happens when you either lose your PAN card or it gets damaged. Apart from this, a reprint is also required when you want to update or correct any information mentioned on your PAN card.

How to Apply for a PAN Card Reprint?

Nowadays, you can apply for a PAN card reprint online as well, and the process is very simple. Here are the steps you need to follow in order to obtain a new copy of your PAN card.

  • Step 1: To initiate the process of online PAN card reprint/correction, you have to visit the official website of the Income Tax Department of India. Alternatively, you can also go to the NSDL (National Securities Depository Limited) website, which is an authorized entity to process PAN Card applications.
  • Step 2: Now there is a separate page for PAN card reprint from where you can raise a new request.
  • Step 3: After clicking on the Pan card reprint option, you’ll see an application form. You have to fill out this form with details such as your PAN, date of birth, name (as per PAN card), mobile number, and email address.
  • Step 4: Once done, you’ll be asked to submit a few documents, such as passport-size photographs, proof of identity, proof of address, and proof of date of birth. If you need some correction in your existing PAN card information, you need to attach some supporting documents as proof. You have to upload all the necessary supporting documents in order to proceed further.
  • Step 5: Now the next step is the payment of PAN card reprint fees. You can make the payment online through various modes like credit/debit cards, net banking, etc. Or, you can also use a demand draft for the same.
  • Step 6: After this, you can review all the information as well as supporting documents and submit the application form. You'll receive an acknowledgement receipt for this. The number mentioned on this receipt can be used for tracking the application status.

Usually, it takes 15-20 days for the preprinted card to arrive. If you want to check the status of your application, you can go to the same website and track using the acknowledgement number.

If you’re applying for a PAN card reprint offline, you can either download this application form or visit the NSDL office to obtain a physical copy. Once filled out, the form can be submitted to the same office along with your passport-size photographs and other relevant documents.

Tips to Keep in Mind

  • While filling out the application form, it is always recommended to keep all the original documents with you and check the information you enter. This helps to avoid any kind of discrepancies.
  • If you’re filling out the form for a change in PAN card information, always upload a supporting document.
  • For online pan correction/reprint application, always use the official website of the Indian Income Tax Department or any government-authorized entity. This minimizes the chances of any scam or fraud.
  • The acknowledgement receipt serves as proof of your application and is necessary for tracking as well. So keep it with you until you receive your new PAN card.
