For applying offline, you can visit any of the district-level PAN agencies and submit your PAN form and necessary documents there. Indian nationals and NRIs (including businesses, NGOs, partnership firms, municipal authorities, trusts, etc.) must complete Form 49A in order to obtain a new PAN whereas Foreign individuals and businesses must complete Form 49AA. You must provide these forms to the Income Tax PAN Services Unit together with all other necessary documents.
Importance of having a PAN card

- In order to pay direct taxes
- Submitting income tax returns
- Preventing the deduction of tax at a greater rate than is necessary
- To engage in a certain transaction, such as:
(a) The sale or acquisition of real estate worth at least Rs. 5 lakh
(b) The sale or acquisition of an automobile that isn't a two-wheeler
(c) Making a one-time payment to hotels or restaurants of more than Rs 25,000.
(d) Payment in cash of more than Rs. 25,000 in conjunction with international travel.

(f) Giving a corporation or organisation money in exchange for bonds or debentures in the amount of Rs. 50,000 or more.

Things to Remember while applying for a new PAN Card

- Foreign applicants should use Form 49AA, while Indian residents must use Form 49A.
- Make sure you use capital letters and black ink when filling out the application./li>
- The applicant must attach a colour photograph in the space provided. The picture should be 3.5 cm by 2.5 cm in size.
- Attach all the necessary, authorised papers serving as proof of identity and residence.
- Make sure that the information you have provided in your application form corresponds to the data in the supporting papers.
- In the PAN card application, be careful to provide the whole address and the landmark.
